LeicaApo-Telyt-T 3.4/180mm. Some months ago I purchased a 400mm f6.8 Telyt R lens 'head only' i.e. without the rear tube. I assumed that the 400mm head would fit the rear tube of my 560mm f6.8 Telyt R - but the rear tube's retaining ring would not fully screw onto 400mm head - thus there was approx 3mm 'fore & aft play'

Butwhen it comes to price, the Leica APO-Telyt-R mm truly goes above and beyond. This one-off extreme telephoto was created for Sheikh Saud Bin Mohammed Al-Thani of Qatar for 16 million Hong Kong dollars, just over $2 million in the US. That lens is a one off, but the photo above is from the prototype that's in the LeicaInstead you simply combine modules as you need them. And you always have telephoto lenses with focal lengths from 280 mm to 800 mm at your disposal. Depending on which focus module is attached, 400/560/800 mm APO-TELYT-R lens head becomes a 400 mm f/2.8 APO-TELYT-R, 560 mm f/4 APO-TELYT-R, or an 800 mm f/5.6 APO-TELYT-R. 18_APO_TELYT_englqxd. In the long telephoto range, the module system produces extraordinarily clear pictures with high contrast and accuracy in detail ren-dition and color reproduction. And because even the smallest mechanical weaknesses can significantly reduce the performance, especially in this range of focal lengths, the Leica module Forme, the advantages of the APO-Telyt are: 50-100g lighter than the TE variants (or any Leica-M 135 since 1964), and almost a full stop greater brightness (T-stop - an effective T/3.0) due to more modern coatings and thinner glass elements, on top of the rated half-stop-larger f/3.4 aperture. Technicaldetails. As a telephoto lens of uncompromising quality, the APO-Telyt 135mm f/3.4 offers optimal resolution, contrast and sharpness at all apertures. With the apochromatic colour correction, minimal distortion and little light fall-off even at maximum aperture, this Telyt lens delivers top pro-level image performance.
FWIW I have a 250/4 Telyt version 1. It has delivered really sharp, contrasty images but if shot into the sun, not so great. It is heavy but does have that Leica look (yes, not a myth, it’s a real thing) and I use it on R SLRs when shooting film, so I think it is a good lens. Go to Flkr and look at photo samples and decide for yourself.
Ithink this is the most expensive lens in the world: the LEICA APO-TELYT-R mm is worth 16 million HKD (2,064,489 USD): Via Schmidtmarketing
